History Halesi Mahadev

Halesi Mahadev is rich in its natural beauty and has its own religious & cultural importance. It is said that the Maratica Cave has been used as a residence for 6000 years inside the temple.The Halesi Cave lies in between the holy rivers of Dudh Kosi & Sun Kosi above the hill.The temple of lord Shiva is inside the Halesi cave. The Halesi Maratika Caves are located next to the village of Mahadevasthan, in the Khotang District of eastern Nepal, 3,100 ft. – 4,734 ft. above sea level. The cave and temple are about 185 km south west of Mount Everest. The temple is a venerated pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists.

How to get Maratika Cave

Maratika, known locally as Haleshi, is near Khotang in the Eastern Nepali hills. Maratika Cave is 260 kilometer and it takes around 10 hours. Need to hire a 4WD jeep since 30 kilometers road is not that good from Jayaram Ghat. The journey to this holy place begins from Kathmandu passing Banepa, Dhulikhel via Araniko highway and the adjoining route of Sinduli, Bardibas, B.P Highway, Nepalthok, Khurkot, turning the route to Ghurmi through mid hilly highway. The Distance of Khurkot is 112km from Kathmandu and Ghurmi is another 61KM from Khurkot. Halesi Mahadev is very famous religious center from the ancient time. Halesi Mahadev in Pilgrims three hours time by using Charter Helicopter from Kathmandu.

Helicopter Charter to Maratika Cave

Maratika Heli charter will start from Kathmandu and land at the Lamidanda airport for fueling, then after that we will start flying to Maratika cave which is just about ten minutes from Lamidanda airport. We will just walk to the cave for 5 minutes, we will take our time. We will then do our praying and ceremonies if any and then after that we will fly back to Kathmandu. Day 01: 4WD Jeep Drive Kathmandu to Halesi Mahadev.
Wake up early in the morning have breakfast and get ready to drive to Halesi Mahadev. It is around 222 kilometers from Kathmandu. It will take around 8 – 9 hours to reach. We will drive from Kathmandu via Dhulikhel, Nepalthok, Khurkot all the way to Ghurmi, Okhaldhunga, Jayaram ghat to Halesi. Upon reaching Halesi check in at hotel. Dinner and Overnight .

Day 02: Meditation in Maratika Cave
Each morning starts pooja and prayer before breakfast. Following breakfast is an invigorating hike around the Maratika area. We enter the cave where we feel the spiritual vortex enclose around us. We spend some time in meditation here in this sacred place before returning to our hotel for lunch. Dinner follows and then evening prayers before retiring to bed.

Day 03: Drive back Halesi to Kathmandu.
Wake up early in the morning. Visit Haleshi Mahadev Temple for worship and follow the same way all the way back to Kathmandu. We will arrive Kathmandu in the evening.

Awesome cave and perfect to visit recreational and religious purpose. There are two caves and a monastry. Overall I would recommend spending the 2 days from/to Kathmandu only for sightseeing at this temple. Most visitors seem to come for religious reasons.
