The Nepal Tourism Board has launched the ‘Visit Nepal 2020’ campaign to attract more tourists to the “roof of the world”.Since the devastating earthquake of 2015 Nepal has tirelessly repaired and rebuilt monuments, roads, accommodation, and other infrastructure. Tourism is now back to pre-earthquake levels. Almost a million people visited Nepal in 2017. It is now the fifth-most popular tourism destination and the number one best value destination in the world.

The federal budget presented by Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada on Tuesday, 29th May, 2018 announced the launch of Visit Nepal 2020. With the goal of attracting 2 million foreign tourists in to the country yearly.

The government of Nepal is working rigorously to ensure a successful tourism period till 2020. The Nepal Tourism Board set a target of 2 million tourist arrival in 2020. Currently, the country sees nearly one million tourist visitors yearly and expect to double this number promoting Visit Nepal Campaign aggressively. At the moment, the tourism board is running Visit Nepal Europe campaign supported by ambassadors and diplomats of Nepal in European countries.

In the history of the tourism sector, various ‘Visit Nepal‘ campaigns have been organized to help promote Nepal globally and attract more tourists. Sticking with the goal to attract one million tourists. Visit Nepal Year 2018 was announced in 2015, after the earthquake in order to help boost the industry. Recently, that plan was shifted to 2020 with guidelines that have set the target to draw 1.5 million tourists as opposed to the previously stated Vision 2020 that had a target of attracting two million tourists.

The private hotel sector has planned to add 4000 new rooms in four and five-star category in Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Pokhara. Many new international chain hotels, Hilton, Marriott, are expected to operate in the coming years.

By 2020, the government plan to operate two new International Airport, Pokhara, and Lumbini and introduce new Airbus 330-200 to provide airline services to a large number of tourists. The government also plans to run Tribhuwan International Airport for additional 3 hours from regular 18 hours to ensure availability of services to incoming and departing tourists.

What is the slogan of Visit Nepal 2020?

Continuing the spirit, 2020 is now the dedicated ‘New Tourism Year’ for Federal Nepal, targeting 2 million tourist arrivals. ‘Visit Nepal 2020’ has its roots in the erstwhile government but has become popular as the brainchild of the ‘ex’ Tourism Minister late Rabindranath Adhikari. As the slogan of the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign is ‘Lifetime Experience‘ we will be introducing new activities that will provide a lifetime experience to visitors. We will concentrate on providing new activities and new experiences to travellers during the campaign period.
